Record STA16 identification: S16 differences, parts and retrofit evidence

Keep equipment identity, compatibility and the proposed scope traceable.

Published: 2026-11-02 · Reviewed: 2026-11-02

Record STA16 has an official historical identity; it should not be silently renamed S16. Record's Chronicle describes STA16 under its 1997 modular product development, while the Chinese S16 page describes an underfloor operator. For an existing entrance, preserve the original identification, establish the installed components and obtain applicable retrofit documents before comparing replacement proposals.

What the official records establish

A current product list and an older installed door describe different points in time. Failing to find a name in today's catalogue does not show that the historical model never existed. Finding it in a historical publication does not establish present stock, spare-part availability or the suitability of a replacement.

Page 7 of Record's Chronicle describes STA16 in its 1997 entry. Page 9 describes the 2007 introduction of STA20 as a development of that modular concept. This establishes a product history, rather than a parts interchangeability chart. It does not approve a control board, motor, sensor or harness for a particular older installation.

Name Evidence reviewed Boundary for a project enquiry
STA16 / STA 16 The 1997 entry in Record's official Chronicle Historical identity; equipment-specific ratings, parts and present supply require further evidence
S16 / S16 SU The official Chinese page describes an underfloor sliding-door operator A different documented context; the shared number does not establish equivalence with STA16
STA20 / System 20 Historical development and a separate official System 20 Upgrade Kit page A system or kit description does not establish compatibility with every older door

The Chinese S16 page describes a buried stainless-steel housing, separated sealed electronic and motor sections, and drainage features. These descriptions help identify the installation concept; they are not drainage instructions for an existing building. A floor access cover alone is insufficient to identify the operator.

Create an equipment record before requesting a part

Assign a site door reference and preserve the wording visible on the equipment label. If a character is unreadable, record the uncertainty alongside the original photograph. Do not complete a damaged label using the model expected by the person preparing the quotation.

Keep whole-equipment identification separate from labels on the control board, motor, operating unit and sensors. Previous maintenance may have changed individual components. An operating-unit name, including a BDE designation, does not identify the main control board.

Use information available from a safe position: entrance overview, moving-leaf arrangement, visible labels, operating mode and any displayed message. Opening covers, accessing electrical parts or entering a moving-door area belongs to appropriately competent personnel under suitable arrangements. This article is a document review method, not a dismantling procedure.

Describe the observed symptom separately from a diagnosis. “No response in automatic mode; other modes not checked” is more informative than an unsupported “failed board.” Where unsafe or uncontrolled movement is suspected, manage access and obtain professional assistance rather than repeatedly operating the door to capture a symptom.

If identification later changes, retain the original entry and record the evidence supporting the correction. This prevents the proposed new product name from becoming an inaccurate record of the old equipment.

What the STA16 upgrade-kit listing does and does not mean

The official Record System 20 Upgrade Kit page includes record STA16 among its variants. It describes model-specific adapter plates and identifies door leaves, rollers, guide rails and drive covers as possible retained components. This provides a concrete route for requesting the applicable retrofit information.

The listing does not inspect the installed guide rail, establish the condition of rollers or approve every retained component on a particular door. Nor does it establish the actual control version, mounting arrangement, interfaces or local supply package. Treat the list of retained items as a scope to review, rather than a requirement to keep them all.

Ask the party proposing the work to connect the full kit name, ordering reference, revision and installation documents to the original equipment. Obtain separate lists of retained and replaced parts. If an important compatibility question remains open, record the responsible party and the effect on the proposal before ordering.

Standards or testing statements on a product page should be read with their stated scope. They do not establish that the completed entrance at this site has already been accepted. A kit listing is evidence of a documented product category, not a completed site assessment.

Compare repair, retrofit and replacement by scope

Equipment age alone does not choose the intervention. A repair needs a supported fault and part assessment. A retrofit needs evidence linking the old installation to the new configuration. A wider replacement still needs to address leaves, supporting construction, access requirements and delivery responsibilities.

Proposed work Information to request Conclusion that remains unsupported
Replace a failed part Existing and proposed part references, revisions and compatibility evidence Similar appearance or a matching plug proves suitability
Install a retrofit kit Applicable old model, kit reference, adapters, retained parts and installation documents Every STA16 installation accepts the same kit
Replace drive and controls Mechanical connection, controls, sensors, operating modes and interface responses Moving the door successfully completes the system assessment
Replace a wider entrance assembly Door-leaf scope, construction, finishes, checks and handover responsibilities A drive-only price includes the whole entrance and all site work

Consider a hypothetical comparison: one proposal retains the guide rail and another replaces it. Before comparing totals, ask each proposer to state the condition assessment and the work included. The difference in cost cannot, by itself, identify a better brand grade. This is a comparison example, not a customer project or an offer.

A fixed load allowance, a universal replacement series or an assumed spare-part lead time cannot substitute for applicable documents and a current supply response. Confirm the actual scope, availability, timing and warranty responsibilities in the relevant order and contract.

Preserve functions and record the handover

List existing functions before deciding which components to retain. For access control, activation, protective sensing, locking and relevant emergency functions, record the signal source, receiving equipment, intended response and responsibility for fault and restoration conditions. “Interface available” is insufficient to show that all existing functions can be reused.

Sensor identity, role and controller compatibility should be checked separately. Opening activation and protective presence sensing are different functions. A completed connection or a door that opens and closes does not, on its own, close the handover record.

The work record should identify the parts actually fitted, their relevant versions, changes made, checks performed, outstanding issues and information given to the user. A fault that has not reappeared should not automatically be recorded as resolved. Use applicable documents and competent site arrangements for checks; do not bypass protection or place people in a closing-door path to test it.

See the related safety evidence guide and parts and sensor identification guide. They support information review and do not provide a universal wiring or acceptance procedure.

Use a shared enquiry record

The original blank legacy-door review worksheet records equipment identity, proposed parts, document references, retained scope and unresolved responsibilities. Use the same door reference when comparing proposals. The worksheet is not an official compatibility table, inspection certificate or acceptance record.

For questions involving “STA20-108” or “X4,” the separate Chinese STA20 suffix and dimension guide explains why a drawing dimension does not establish a complete supply configuration. Do not infer origin, transmission type, controller or warranty from a suffix alone.

Reviewed sources: Record Chronicle, pages 7 and 9; the official Chinese S16 underfloor product page; and the official Record System 20 Upgrade Kit page. Review date: 2 November 2026. The history and kit category are documented; the ratings and compatibility of an individual old door remain subject to its applicable evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Is Record STA16 a documented historical model?

Yes. Record's official Chronicle describes STA16 under its 1997 modular product development and refers to it again in the 2007 STA20 entry. This does not establish current whole-equipment or spare-part availability.

Can STA16 and the S16 underfloor operator be treated as the same model?

No equivalence should be inferred from the shared number. STA16 has its own historical record, while the Chinese S16 page describes an underfloor operator. Confirm installed identity and applicable documents separately.

Does the upgrade-kit listing approve retention of my existing guide rail?

No. The kit version, original equipment, installation documents and condition of the rail and related components still need review. A list of possible retained items is not an approval for this installation.

Can a System 20 manual be used to wire an unidentified STA16 installation?

Not on the basis of product history alone. Establish the installed controls, component revisions and proposed retrofit configuration, then obtain the applicable wiring and installation documents.

Are STA16 parts in stock with a fixed lead time?

This page does not make that commitment. Current supply depends on the full part references, compatibility evidence and supplier response; timing and responsibilities should be recorded in the order.

Is the model name enough for a retrofit quotation?

No. Add a site door reference, original identification, safely obtained photographs, relevant mechanical conditions, symptoms or objectives, and the functions proposed for retention. Identity, compatibility and scope are separate questions.
