Hospital automatic doors should be specified by entrance function, not by a department name alone. Passage, sealing, cleanability, fire-related functions, radiation protection and access control require different evidence and responsibilities. Identify the location, intended use, proposed equipment and applicable documents before selecting a configuration. This guide provides a project briefing method using Record information as a reference; it is not a hospital design or acceptance decision.
Begin with the actual entrance
A public entrance and a door to a controlled room may have different purposes even within the same building. Bed, trolley, wheelchair and assisted passage also need an accurate account of the intended use. A room label does not establish the equipment or every required performance characteristic.
Use the following questions to collect information from the responsible parties. The table does not allocate a fixed model to each department or establish clinical requirements.
| Entrance or purpose | Project information to obtain | Answer still needed |
|---|---|---|
| Public entrance or general passage | Users, direction, structural opening and required clear passage | Operating method, relevant protection zones and safe arrangements during an abnormality |
| Bed, trolley or assisted passage | Intended movement, actual passage process, leaf and surrounding space | Activation, opening and hold requirements, with their project basis |
| A controlled room or clinical area | The entrance's project function and requirements confirmed by the facility | What the door must provide and what depends on ventilation, enclosure or another system |
| Imaging or specialist equipment room | Exact equipment, room purpose and specialist requirements | Protection subject, design basis and evidence for the relevant door assembly |
| Access, emergency or fire-related function | Intended use, locks, power and external inputs | Required response, priorities and responsibility for restoration |
Leave unresolved information visible. Do not substitute a model chart for coordination between the disciplines responsible for an entrance.
Hermetic sealing is not a room-performance certificate
Record's public CLEAN information connects sealing with the leaf and seal arrangement and describes related configurations without a requirement for hermetic separation that retain a similar appearance. A photograph or a “hygienic door” label therefore does not establish the sealing configuration being supplied.
Keep the room's environmental requirements, the door assembly's performance and the installed result separate. A door alone does not establish the conditions of the whole room. The project parties need to define its relationship with ventilation, enclosure and other facilities. This guide does not prescribe a pressure, cleanliness class or clinical configuration.
An easy-to-clean surface is also not proof of an antibacterial effect or permission to use any chemical or washing method. Obtain the maintenance limits for the actual surfaces, seals, glazing and operating components. The performance-evidence guide (Chinese) separates these document subjects.
Tie drawings, schedules and documents to a door reference
Give each entrance an identifiable reference. Retain its location, drawing, proposed equipment list and document index together. Record the structural opening separately from required clear passage. Identify moving leaves, construction and the basis for their weight rather than treating area as weight.
List operator, leaves, seals, glazing, hardware, activation and protection devices, locks and operating units separately. “One hospital automatic door” does not establish which items are supplied or provided by another party. Preserve complete model names, suffixes and document editions.
For refurbishment, identify the components proposed for retention. Their condition and compatibility need the appropriate technical review. A replacement operator moving the existing leaf does not, on its own, verify the complete combination or its intended functions.
Record the coordination work
| Coordination subject | Answer to obtain | Record to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Leaves, frame and installation conditions | Who supplies and confirms dimensions, support, surroundings and maintenance access | Agreed drawings, site differences and their resolution |
| Required door performance | Exact subject, conditions and supporting evidence | Proposed assembly, document editions and unresolved matters |
| Activation, protection and interfaces | Fitted components, signals, related systems and responsible parties | Interface information, implementation changes and relevant verification results |
| Site works and ongoing care | Work window, segregation, alternative passage and scope | Confirmed arrangements, contacts, documents and handover records |
Whether an area can remain in use during works needs a specific agreement with the facility and implementation parties. A general article cannot promise uninterrupted hospital activity, overnight completion or a fixed construction period. Personnel, transport and parts also need a project-specific answer.
Define fire and power-loss responses separately
Different entrances can have different project functions. Ask for separate answers covering a fire input under normal supply, mains failure, operation of an emergency device, and restoration of the signal or supply. Record operator, locking and standby-power behaviour separately.
“Fire interface available” does not describe all of those conditions. The appropriate movement follows the intended project function and exact configuration, rather than the brand name. The door-safety and emergency-state guide explains a response-and-evidence record without providing cross-model wiring or test instructions.
Checks involving building systems need the relevant parties and safe arrangements. Do not disconnect power, simulate a fire input or operate an unfamiliar emergency device simply to complete an enquiry sheet.
Do not use a person to test protection
Do not place a hand or a person in the closing path to test a protective function. Do not recreate a contact incident for a fault video. Technical verification should use the applicable equipment instructions, specified methods and test objects. Ordinary users should observe, record and report within their training and the facility's arrangements.
Where an abnormality could injure someone, control the hazardous area and have the responsible personnel secure the entrance under the site plan, considering safe alternative access where required. Reduced protection settings, bridged inputs or an attendant do not restore a failed protective function. Professional resolution and relevant checks are needed before normal use resumes.
Handover should follow the installed entrance
Retain the actual equipment schedule, applicable instructions, performance evidence, implementation changes, verification scope/results, training and service contacts. Distinguish work not performed, evidence outstanding and items considered not applicable with a reason. An empty field is not a pass.
The maintenance and cleaning plan should address the fitted materials and components. Do not assign one chemical, period or lifespan to all “hospital doors”. Changes to seals, configuration or surroundings and abnormal movement can affect what needs checking. A service appointment does not replace the resolution of a present safety issue.
Download the original blank hospital automatic door project brief (English CSV). It organises location, requirements, equipment, documents and responsibilities. It is not a manufacturer's test form, an infection-control plan or an acceptance certificate. The Chinese hospital guide provides the corresponding Chinese worksheet.
Source scope and enquiries
This guide was reviewed on 2 November 2026 using Record's public CLEAN information and the site's previously reviewed model, safety and component references. It provides procurement and handover questions. It does not establish approval for a particular department, clinical use, fire function or specialist protection requirement.
Detailed CLEAN product and document identification is addressed separately in the model guide (Chinese). A file appearing in a download area still needs to match the actual equipment and edition; a related series name is not enough.

State the project country, door reference, intended use and available requirements. Supply, site work, delivery, price and warranty responsibilities require a specific reply and agreement. An English reference does not establish local service in every country. See the international enquiry guide for the information needed to assess a request.

Frequently asked questions
Should every automatic door in a hospital be the same hermetic model?
Do not select by the hospital or department name alone. Establish the entrance function, users and project requirements, then identify the performance, configuration and evidence needed for that door.
Is a department name enough for a quotation?
It identifies a location but not a specification. Obtain the intended function, dimensions, leaf information, performance requirements, interfaces and work scope. This guide does not prescribe a standard clinical configuration.
Does a hermetic door by itself maintain a room's pressure conditions?
A door alone does not establish whole-room conditions. The responsible parties need to define the door performance and its relationship with ventilation, enclosure and other facilities, including the relevant checks.
Must hospital automatic doors always open on a fire signal or power loss?
There is no universal response from the brand or building type alone. Confirm the entrance function, exact equipment, locks, supply, external signals and restoration arrangements with the responsible parties.
Can protection be checked by putting a hand in the closing path?
Do not use a hand or a person in the closing path to test protection. Professional checks should follow the applicable methods and use specified test objects. Users should observe and report within their training and site arrangements.
Does completing the project brief complete hospital acceptance?
No. The sheet organises information and unresolved questions. Performance verification, installation checks and acceptance require the appropriate parties, correct equipment documents and applicable project requirements.
